Tiny Desk AI FAQ
Answers about the Tiny Desk AI video generator: choosing a photo, pet leads, pricing and credits, failed tasks, privacy and how it relates to NPR's Tiny Desk.
What is Tiny Desk AI?
It is a photo-to-video take on the desk-concert meme: a small band performs among office shelves, with a lead singer, keyboard, backing singers and a saxophone moment. The appeal is seeing a familiar concert setup with an unexpected cast. Tiny Desk AI on this site is an independent creative tool.
Where did the original performance come from?
NPR Music published Charlie Wilson: Tiny Desk Concert on June 5, 2023. The set closes with Outstanding by The Gap Band. That live performance is the source behind the recognizable desk, band and singing close-ups.
How did it become the coaches meme?
In October 2026, creator Jake Whipple, known as The Burner, recast the performance with college football coaches after their teams lost. Sports-fan versions and tutorials followed. His interview with Sport & State describes using an existing concert clip and an AI editing tool. This site does not claim to have made that original parody.
What does this site make from my photo?
The Tiny Desk preset asks the model for a newly generated office-band performance using your chosen person or pet as the visual reference. It is a new scene inspired by the concert format. External clips shown with source links are references, not videos made by this website or a guarantee of your result.
Which photo should I upload?
Choose a clear photo with visible eyes and useful head-and-shoulder detail. Even lighting and a reasonably front-facing face help; heavy blur, sunglasses and strong beauty filters leave details for the model to invent. Use your own photo or an adult who agreed to be animated, and match the subject setting to the photo.
Can I put two people in the concert?
People mode supports one lead portrait, two separate portraits, or one photo showing both people. With two separate portraits, the first guides the lead and the second guides the sax player. A two-person photo must show both faces clearly. The tool does not provide five separate identity slots, and AI can change or mix details.
Can my cat or dog be the lead?
Pet mode uses one photo of one animal. Keep the eyes, ears, muzzle and distinctive markings visible, and do not add a second pet photo. The preset asks for an animal performer, but paws, proportions and likeness can vary; a person example does not establish the quality of a pet result.
Does the download include Outstanding or my real voice?
Your photo does not supply or recover your real voice. Sound depends on the effect you choose, so play the complete result with audio before sharing. To use a different song, add a sound you are allowed to use in your publishing app and check its timing yourself.
Will the shots and lip-sync match the viral clip exactly?
No exact match is promised. The office-band direction can include a lead close-up, a wider band view and a saxophone moment, but motion, shot order, instruments and mouth movements can vary. Watch and listen to the complete result before sharing.
How long is the video, and which quality can I choose?
Use the duration, resolution and format actually offered for the model you select. These settings are part of the full credit quote; the length of an external reference is not your output specification. Processing time depends on the model and queue, so the task status is more useful than a fixed waiting-time promise.
How do I create and find my video?
Add the required photo or photos, choose the matching subject and available settings, then review the credit quote. When generation is available, sign in and submit once. Follow the saved task in My videos; after completion, play the whole result and use its download action. Buying credits does not start a video automatically.
How much does it cost, and is a subscription required?
The tool shows a complete credit quote for your model, duration and quality; there is no single credit price for every video. Pricing includes one-time packs and optional monthly or annual plans. Credits can be bought with PayPal. One-time credits do not expire; subscription allowances follow their billing period and do not roll over. Annual allowances are granted up front.
What if a task fails or stays pending?
A confirmed failed task releases its reserved credits. If a task is pending or its status is unknown, check that existing task before submitting another paid attempt. Credit release and a cash-payment refund are separate. Keep the task and order identifiers and consult account support or the Refund Policy for the relevant request.
Are my uploads public, and can I share the result?
Personal uploads are not automatically published as website examples. Media is handled to provide generation and private account delivery; consult the Privacy Policy for the applicable details. Download and review the result, respect the permission of everyone pictured and label realistic AI media when the destination platform requires it. Adding music does not grant music rights.
Is Tiny Desk AI affiliated with NPR, Tiny Desk Concerts or Charlie Wilson?
No. Tiny Desk AI (tinydesk-ai.net) is an independent photo-to-video tool. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by NPR, Tiny Desk Concerts, Charlie Wilson or The Gap Band.
Can I try it before paying?
Yes. New accounts receive 6 welcome credits once, valid for 30 days, which at current rates covers one 12-second 480p video with Seedance 2.0 Mini; other settings need more credits. You can also watch the examples, read the photo guides and see the complete credit quote before generating. A confirmed failed task releases its reserved credits.
Can I download a version without sound?
Yes. Next to Download, a completed result offers Download without sound, which removes the audio track in your browser and does not use credits. If your browser cannot prepare it, download the normal file and mute it in your editor. To use your own music, add licensed music from your app's library.
How is Tiny Desk AI different from other Tiny Desk generators?
Tiny Desk AI accepts a person or a pet as the lead, supports one or two people, shows the full credit quote before generation, releases credits for failed tasks and is available in six languages. See the Tiny Desk AI alternatives page for a side-by-side comparison.
